The mess hall was dark. It was in the middle of a duty shift and consequently, Shepard was the only person sitting at the table. In fact, she had the whole compartment to herself. Most days the Commander avoided eating with her crew because she didn't want them to suffer the discomfort of having to eat with their CO.
